‘Our England is a garden’ wrote Rudyard Kipling who, living nearby, may well have known this fabulous home and bucolic surroundings. Longbourn is a magnificent, Victorian country house luxury boutique B&B set in stunning gardens and a thriving smallholding of 12 acres overlooking Wealden countryside. Arrive at this lovely Wolsey Lodge B&B via the rhododendron-flanked drive, entering the huge entrance hall, brimming with antiques, into this lovingly and beautifully restored home. An elegant drawing room, with open fireplace and comfortable sofas, is for B&B guests’ use, as is the dining room, for enjoying breakfast or private evening dining. Visitors are welcome to explore the gardens and see the eclectic collection of animals.
A galleried landing leads to spacious luxury guest bedrooms, many having views across the valley and access to a balcony for relaxing and enjoying the view. All are individually furnished and characterful. Either en suite or with private bathroom, they are equipped to the highest level, with fine linens and everything else expected at such a fabulous Wolsey Lodge B&B.
Delicious freshly cooked breakfasts include homemade sausages and bacon from the rare breed Middle White pigs and eggs from Roland and Jane’s traditional Lohmann Brown hens.
Your B&B Hosts
Jane’s background in theatrical costume design and eye for detail clearly influenced the fabulous décor and soft furnishings. She is also a cook of note and their home food production has featured on television. Roland is also a keen cook and they are a great team. He works in the City and his penchant for military history is evident in their collection of antique military engravings. They are splendid Wolsey Lodge B&B hosts and enthusiastically endeavour to provide a special and memorable stay.
With Glyndebourne just down the road, this area offers something for all tastes and ages. There is stunning scenery and fabulous coastal towns like Hastings and Rye. It is a veritable foodie paradise with fresh produce and farm shops, superb pubs and restaurants, plus food, music and antiques festivals as well as agricultural shows.
