Nestling in its own lovely, peaceful landscaped gardens and surrounded by open fields, Black Bond Hall is a historic Essex Wolsey Lodge dating back to the 16th Century. This luxury B&B is deep in the heart of ‘hidden Essex’ which is just waiting to be discovered! The grounds have plenty of parking, rolling lawns and wonderful borders. On arrival, Wolsey Lodge guests are welcome to enjoy tea and wonderful homemade cake on the terrace if weather permits.
The house has a wealth of exposed light lime washed beams and other quirky features befitting a unique B&B in a building of this age – but the standards are definitely 21st Century Wolsey Lodge. The comfortable and charming double bedrooms are both en suite and decorated in sympathetic period character with top quality soft furnishings and linens.
Breakfast will set you up for the day. There is a wide selection, sourced from local produce served from the modern kitchen in the traditional timbered dining room, seated around the Georgian table.
Your B&B Hosts
Andrew and Gillian are superb Wolsey Lodge luxury B&B hosts; nothing is too much trouble and they are happy to recommend the various excellent pubs and restaurants nearby. Andrew, a chartered surveyor, has spent his entire career in the area, and with his local farming links, has a wealth of knowledge to share with guests. They are both keen tennis players (and have a court which Wolsey Lodge guests are welcome to use) and enjoy golf, bridge and classic motoring.
This lovely part of Essex has so much to offer. Nearby Colchester is Britain’s oldest recorded town and the area is great for cycling and walking. Mersea Island – the most easterly inhabited island in the UK – is worth visiting. Foodies will enjoy the fantastic seafood (Mersea is famous for its oysters) plus there are boat trips, nature reserves, wildlife centres, stately homes, country parks and more. Dedham Vale and ‘Constable Country’ and the picturesque villages on the Essex/Suffolk border are also close by.
