The Old RectoryBrochure Page. 40

A classic Georgian house in Jane Austen country, The Old Rectory, luxury B&B, is set in an acre of walled garden in the centre of the village, close to National Trust land. Glimpses of the church next door can be seen from the large terrace, perfect for eating outside. There is a pond and a croquet lawn in the peaceful garden in which there is colour and interest throughout the seasons. There are some specimen trees which are the owners’ pride and joy.

This B&B is traditionally and comfortably furnished and is, above all, a much loved home.

Your B&B Hosts

Friendliness and relaxation are the keynotes in Robin and Phyllida’s home and they love the diversity of B&B guests. Robin is a retired publisher and Phyllida was, for many years, involved with the Garden Museum (formerly The Museum of Garden History) which was founded by her parents. She organises garden visits in England and abroad and the beautiful garden is a testament to the fact that she is an imaginative gardener whose husband does all the real hard graft!

The Location

It is five miles from Jane Austen’s house and museum at Chawton. Portsmouth Dockyard (with HMS Victory, The Mary Rose and Warrior), Gun Wharf Quays and the ferries to the continent and the Isle of Wight are half an hour away. Glorious Goodwood with its racing, classic car events and Festival of Speed is less than 40 minutes drive, as are Winchester and Chichester, with its Cathedral and theatre. Petworth House is closer with its Turners and grounds laid out by Capability Brown. We are convenient for Grange Park Opera and the Watercress Line steam railway runs between Alresford and Alton. Heathrow and Gatwick can be reached within the hour.
