Gotten ManorBrochure Page. 45Z
Gotten Manor on the Isle of Wight is an amazing Wolsey Lodge luxury B&B, possibly one of the the oldest in our portfolio and one of the most characterful. While the wonky walls preclude some standard furniture it doesn’t stint on luxury or style and is the perfect place for a relaxing break. The charming 14th century manor house luxury B&B is carefully, restored and the site, recorded in the Domesday Book, had been inhabited for a thousand years. The property is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and sits in its own grounds with an abundance of natural wildlife and the absence of light pollution makes it an ideal place to view the night sky.
The B&B building itself has an unusual layout dating back to Saxon times, consequently not advised for those with limited mobility. Every effort is made to be an ultra ecological B&B and inside it is traditionally decorated with lime washed stone walls, wooden or flagstone floors with Persian rugs. A guest sitting room, complete with inglenook and wood burner, has games, books and information about the island. Lovely bedrooms, one approached by an outside staircase, both with an in-room roll top bath (this old building can’t accommodate a full en suite) fresh flowers, fine linens and garden views will cosset you. Caroline serves breakfast to you and fellow guests in the guest breakfast room.
There is no mistaking this luxury B&B’s ancient charm!
Your B&B Hosts
Born on the Isle of Wight, Caroline is a mine of information which she is pleased to share with her B&B guests. She returned to the island after many years in London producing films and her grown up children have now fled the nest. She is a superb host as well as a talented cook, making her own preserves, yogurt and breads for the delicious breakfasts. The house has its own water supply from the spring in the hills and tastes delicious!
With landscape, rolling countryside and breath-taking coastline only a mile away, the area is ideal for walking or cycling. The island itself is steeped in history and a wealth of attractions, from historic sites, music festivals, Queen Victoria’s beloved Osborne House, fabulous food and gorgeous beaches. There is something here for all ages and interests.
