The Barn, luxury B&B, Grade ll listed, is tucked away in eight acres of grassland on the edge of the lovely conservation village of Folkingham. During its conversion, the owners discovered ancient stonework, apparently already ‘recycled’ in the 17th century from the nearby Norman castle.

Restored with minimum interference to the original building, open beamed areas were retained and under floor heating installed. Open log fires, comfortable sofas, antique oak furniture and a large dining table now reside where grain was once thrashed. French windows from the kitchen, formerly stables, lead to the courtyard garden. Bed & Breakfast guests enjoy pretty bed linens, in simply styled rooms, with excellent power showers and lovely views.

Your B&B Hosts

Jane has loved welcoming Wolsey Lodge B&B guests for some years. Everyone is encouraged to make themselves at home and begin their visit with tea around the old farmhouse kitchen table. Breakfasts include eggs from the rare breed hens, home made Lincolnshire sausages and honey from the bees. With good local knowledge she can advise B&B guests where they might like to visit during their stay and keeps a collection of local guides and history books. Jane loves travelling herself, and appreciates what makes for a relaxing and enjoyable visit. Many guests return year after year.

The Location

Folkingham has been described as a ‘Georgian rural gem’. The village centre has changed very little, the village stores, and the Greyhound, a former coaching Inn, still stand in the Market Place, near the church, dating from the 12th century. There are several good eating establishments nearby.

South Lincolnshire comes as a surprise to those who think the county is only flat, the villages are surrounded by gently rolling land and linked by generally deserted lanes. All perfect for cycling or walking. Numerous country houses such as Burghley and Belton, outstanding churches and cathedrals, and busy market towns, are all within easy reach and Stamford is always a favourite.
