Home Farmhouse, Charlton, offering luxury bed and breakfast (B&B) accommodation in Oxfordshire is nearly 500 years old and retains many of its original features – beams, inglenook fireplaces and winding staircases. Most important of all, though, is the feeling of friendliness and warmth which many B&B guests remark on when they enter the house for the first time. The house itself could not be more conveniently laid out for guests with three charming bedrooms each enjoying its own approach staircase and en suite bathroom. The bedrooms have extremely comfortable beds made up traditionally with sheets, blankets and eiderdown and are provided with television and radio, fresh fruit, chocolates and flapjacks.
Tea and cake are offered to B&B guests on arrival – in the delightful walled garden if the weather permits or in the attractive drawing room if it does not or if the garden is closed under the NGS scheme. Breakfast, to order the night before, including homemade bread, jams and blackberry and apple compote from the garden, is served in the elegant dining room and is usually a lively talkative affair with Nigel’s military ancestors looking down approvingly from the walls.

Home Farmhouse is home indeed to Nigel and Rosemary Grove-White and Goliath and Samson, two miniature wirehaired dachshunds who offer the friendliest welcome. Nigel retired to become Chief Executive of the British Horse Society, prior to which, he spent 32 years in the Army. Rosemary trained as an interior designer and for thirty years has very successfully run her own interior design, soft furnishing and upholstery business.

There is a good friendly pub just 100 yards away - reservations recommended.
