Old Kippenross
No. 121 (9994)
What a find this Wolsey Lodge is for guests looking for the unusual as well as luxury bed and breakfast (B&B) accommodation. Old Kippenross is a magical architectural gem, quite unique in Scotland, tucked away in a sheltered sunny position in a wooded valley beside the River Allan.
The ‘ancient tower' was built in 1448 and was confirmed as a Barony in 1507. In 1633 it was extended to a fortified L-shaped tower house. It has been painted pink ever since the battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715, a sign that it was a safe house for Jacobite supporters.
The ground floor of the accommodation is fascinating with a vaulted ceiling, an arched fireplace and a log fire. A spiral stair leads up to the ‘Blue Room', a twin bedded room with an en suite bathroom and a small single room for a child or relation. Up again is the ‘Tower Bedroom' with a king size double bed and en suite bathroom. Each of these B&B accommodation bedrooms are prettily decorated and face south with views to the river where roe deer can often be seen browsing.
Guests can walk beside the river and in the grounds among mature trees and abundant wildlife.
