The Thatched House
Lodge No 104B
The Thatched House sits amongst other cottages in a picture perfect setting on the slopes of the South Downs and, despite the name, is not thatched. Instead it takes its name from its former life as a beer house and is now home to Guy and Mary Leonard who, having lived in the village for 30 years, moved into and renovated the house in 2006. Dating from the 1800s, the warm interior marries original features and antiques with modern comforts and furnishings.
You will be welcomed by Guy, Mary and their friendly corgi Phoebe and offered tea in the sitting room where you will probably learn about the latest arrivals at the Wildbrooks wetlands area next door. Bewick and Whooper swans and a myriad of wild fowl arrive throughout the year and the opportunity to take a stroll in the reserve should not be missed.
The cosy guest room is suitably furnished with a newly refurbished private bathroom just along the landing. There is a second bedroom available for family or friends travelling together and happy to share the bathroom. Breakfast here is a joy with local bacon, eggs and sausages as well as fresh fruit and, if requested, smoked salmon or pancakes with pancetta.
Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts
Guy and Mary’s in-depth knowledge of this area of West Sussex is invaluable to guests that are new to the area. Now retired, Mary worked in the health service and Guy was a businessman and together they share a passion for gardening, regularly hosting Open Garden events and are closely involved with the local community.
