Staying on what is arguably one of the country’s finest fishing and shooting estates is of course a treat for any sportsman. Combine this with a fine Georgian country house offering exceptionally luxurious B&B hospitality and you have a location anyone would be happy to visit.

The Wrackleford Estate has been in the Pope family for six generations and is now home to Katie and Oliver and their three children. Set in the heart of the Frome Valley in Dorset, everything here is gloriously and quintessentially English and the house is a classic reflection of this with antique furnishing, family photos and paintings, whilst outside the sweeping lawns lead down to the River Wrackle and beyond are meadows and a waterfall. A welcoming tea on arrival is enjoyed in the plant-filled conservatory whilst a sunny spot outside is the perfect location for a lazy breakfast.

Each guest room is large and comfortably furnished with bathrooms that feature marble bath and basin surrounds and feel, quite simply, luxuriously decadent. Breakfast is an excellent affair of local produce and Katie will pack you a sumptuous picnic lunch or offer to cook a barbecue on the river banks if you’re fishing. Dinner can be enjoyed at any of the excellent local restaurants.

Wrackleford is Oliver’s family home but he spent time in the army before moving here with his young family in 2006. A keen interest in the countryside makes both he and Katie natural guardians of this wonderful estate and they enthusiastically and warmly welcome their B&B guests to enjoy all it has to offer with them.

The Location

Aside from the estate fishing and shooting, this area of Dorset has much to offer visitors. The Thomas Hardy and Tutankhamun museums, Maiden Castle, Cerne Abbas Giant, Corfe and Sherborne Castles, Longleat and the wild Jurassic coast are all within easy reach.
