This imposing ‘Georgian’ house was in fact designed by Jeremy and built eight years ago to incorporate an existing house. The result is fabulous. The attention to detail has been meticulous with spacious rooms adorned with beautiful fabrics and antique furnishings, all set off to perfection by Elizabeth’s paintings which grace the walls throughout. Elizabeth is an artist of note, and the dining room, decorated in chinoiserie style with glorious murals of plants, birds, trees and people in an attractive landscape, is a testament to her talent.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are large, comfortable and offer every luxury, and the delights of this house don’t stop there because the gardens and grounds are also very special with terraces, a heated swimming pool and a tennis court (racquets and balls provided). There are horses in the stables (which are available for experienced guests to ride), sheep in the orchard and lovely walks from behind the house where deer appear in the fields. In addition to all this, Elizabeth provides guests with delicious breakfasts and dinners using locally produced ingredients.

This house really does offer everything – painting and drawing lessons, riding, swimming, beautiful surroundings and fine food – what more could anyone wish for?

Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts

Jeremy is a solicitor practising in Salisbury whilst Elizabeth is a painter who trained in Florence for 6 years and now runs painting and drawing courses from their home (ask Elizabeth about combining a short stay with a painting course). She is an excellent cook and she and Jeremy are an easy going, interesting couple who enjoy having guests to stay.

Superb location for visiting Stonehenge, Shaftesbury, Longleat, Montacute, Sherborne Castle, Bath and Salisbury among others or spend a day at Wincanton Race Course or explore the glorious surrounding countryside.

Motcombe is situated on the B3081 halfway between Shaftesbury and Gillingham. Take the turning to Motcombe, Church House is situated on the left before the church.
