23 Mayfield Gardens

Fantastic food, exceptional service - truly one of the best…

Internationally and nationally recognised in magazines, travel guides, voted for as one of the best B&Bs in Scotland and multi award winning, 23 Mayfield Gardens sets the bar for luxury bed and breakfast. Only a mile from the heart of Edinburgh, this Wolsey Lodge is a substantial Victorian villa, with secure off road parking and excellent transport links.

Many original features such as stained glass windows have been retained and this superb guest house is strikingly decorated in rich colours, offsetting the beautiful wood panelling, reminiscent of a gentleman’s club. Sympathetically restored and sumptuously furnished, there are many extras such as newspapers, books, DVDs and games for B&B guests to enjoy.

Guest bedrooms all have en suite shower rooms, goose down pillows, fine linens and bathrobes, Penhaligon’s toiletries, a fridge, and hospitality tray. Hand carved solid mahogany furniture – one guest room with Jacobean-style four-poster - and top quality accessories abound.

Superb breakfasts, with a strong Scottish theme, are served by candlelight in winter, further adding atmosphere. Guests using the garden are welcome to make the most of the extra facilities which include a hot tub and bicycles for hire.

Your B&B Hosts

Ross and Kathleen both have extensive hospitality experience including Ross’s time on the QEII. 23 Mayfield B&B is a real family business, with Ross’s parents helping out too. They have a young family and really enjoy welcoming guests and sharing their detailed knowledge of Edinburgh and the surrounding area. Their breakfast menu reflects Ross’s passion for top quality produce, locally sourced and beautifully presented. A vegetarian menu is also available.

Edinburgh is famous for the Festival each August and the Military Tattoo. It is en route to the Highlands but a superb destination in its own right, with museums, art galleries, lively nightlife, great shopping and more. Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace and Arthur’s Seat are a must visit when in this part of the country. Garden lovers should make time for the Royal Botanics, whislt anyone with a taste for shopping should take a stroll down the Royal Mile and Mary King's Close. For foodies there are some excellent places to visit such as Leith with its food shops and restaurants and the former Royal Yacht Britannia. Summer is a particularly special time of year, with the Fringe festival and international festivals taking over the whole city.
