Bracken House
Lodge No 33A
A short distance from the centre of the pretty Devon village of Bratton Fleming, amidst seven acres of gardens is the old rectory known as Bracken House. Home to Sue and Guy Sherratt, and their two children since 2009 it is now a welcoming family home. Antiques and art sit comfortably alongside relaxed furnishings and the library is packed with interesting books. A Devon cream tea on arrival is served in the library or on fine days outside on the plant-filled terrace.
Bracken House was once home to Reverend Wodehouse, uncle of PG Wodehouse who is known to have stayed here, perhaps drawing inspiration for some of his colourful characters. The guest rooms are suitably named ‘Jeeves’ and ‘Wooster’ in recognition of this famous house guest. ‘Jeeves’ has a double bed whilst ‘Wooster’ can be made up as a double or twin and both have en suite bathrooms furnished with the finishing touches you would expect from a Wolsey Lodge. Delicious breakfasts, and dinner if you choose, feature local produce and seasonal offerings from the garden.
Outside the wonderful views across the surrounding countryside extend on clear days to the sea and across to Appledore and Hartland Point.
