The splendour and comfort of Pentillie Castle is absolutely second to none. From the moment you arrive and drive through the parkland with its abundance of oaks and views across Dartmoor, to discovering the perfectly sumptuous bedrooms, gardens and dining that await you, it is quite possible you could wish to lose yourself here and never leave.

The castle started life as a grand formal house in 1698 and was gradually enlarged and used for different purposes throughout the following centuries before it was inherited and restored by hosts Ted and Sarah Coryton. Almost 60 acres of park, woodland and garden surround the castle including a heated outdoor pool and an American garden abundant with rhododendrons, camellias, magnolias and azaleas. Inside, large though it is, there is a welcoming, homely feel overlaid with an unmistakable historic grandeur.

Each guest room is luxurious, comfortable and spacious with en suite bathrooms to match, thoughtfully filled with scented toiletries. Breakfast and dinner are served in the atmospheric setting of the dining hall which in the evening twinkles with candle and fire light. Pentillie Castle is unlike any other Wolsey Lodge and a real treasure to visit.

Ted and Sarah’s love of Pentillie is clear in the work they have done to make it their home and guests are made to feel so welcome to share it with them and nothing is too much trouble – just ask. Ted is a former helicopter pilot and still works as an aviation and oil exploration consultant and Sarah is a therapeutic masseuse.

The Location

Exploring and enjoying the grounds here will take time, but step away from the castle and close by are river trips on the Tamar, Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor, The Eden Project, National Trust properties and of course, the splendour of Cornish gardens aplenty.

How to find Pentillie Castle Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Take A38 into Cornwall. At first roundabout, turn right onto A388, signed to Callington and Launceston. Follow road for 3.1 miles, to Paynters Cross. Turn right signed Paynters Cross, Cargreen and Landulph. Pentillie Castle gates are within 100 yards of main road.
