This Grade ll* Devonshire Hall House is very special indeed. Not only because it has witnessed the passing of 25 English monarchs, plagues and civil wars, but also because it is a much loved home where guests can experience a sense of history alongside modern comforts.

Entering through the old thatched porchway into beamed sitting rooms with huge granite fireplaces and bread oven, guests can take tea in front of the log fire, or relax by the swimming pool and enjoy the moorland views. Upstairs each bedroom has country style elegance and charm reflecting the unique atmosphere of Gate House, and enjoys views of the gardens and moors beyond.

Its good to know that in a changing world some things remain the same.

The Location

Featured on radio and television, Country Living magazine, the Sunday Telegraph, and Observer newspapers Gate House nestles in a tiny conservation village within the Dartmoor National Park. Within the village are the13th century church, the village inn, and the ancient packhorse bridge crossing the River Bovey. There is much to do and see, with many National Trust properties, Bronze Age and medieval villages, and the glory of Dartmoor itself, which make this a visitor's paradise.

How to find Gate House Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Take B3212 westwards from Moretonhampstead. After approximately 2 miles turn left and follow signs to North Bovey. Gate House is off the village green, 50 yards down Lower Hill, past the village inn.
