Toneham House
Lodge No 4
A glimpse of the five acres of garden and woodland on the edge of the fens, with huge walnut and sycamore trees framing the house and lawns to the front, gives the first indication of the treat in store for guests at Toneham House. With welcoming log fires in the reception rooms, afternoon tea is served on arrival, while guests are encouraged to relax in the delightfully decorated, antique filled drawing room.
The guest bedroom, with en suite shower room, is comfortable, warm and tastefully decorated in keeping with the rest of the house. Sarah is an ardent chef and delights in preparing beautifully cooked meals, using home and locally grown fresh ingredients, which are served in the elegant dining room.
Guests are welcome to explore the woodland, pasture and formal gardens, and make use of the grass tennis court. Toneham House stands on the site of a Medieval Benedictine convent, purportedly linked by a secret tunnel to Thorney Abbey, a mile away to the east. This is just one of the gems of fascinating local knowledge, that Tim and Sarah share with guests which helps to bring the history of the fens alive.
