A love of good food, delightful hospitality and interesting gardens draw guests to Yew Tree House, nestling behind tall yew hedges and old brick walls just a mile from the village of Ingatestone.

Elizabeth and Tony welcome you with home made shortbread or almond cake for tea. Delights such as marinated mushrooms, escalopes of pork in marsala and warm chocolate mousse cake with sorbet of mascapone are served for dinner.

Sunny bedrooms have luxurious beds and pristine modern en suite bathrooms have both baths and showers and all the extras you need.

The huge guest lounge, with exquisite fabrics and soft furnishings, has 18 foot wide patio doors overlooking the terrace and garden which has been televised for the ITV series âBritains Best Back Gardens'. A shady pergola, with stone sinks under the wisteria, looks out onto lawns. Colour themed beds and box edged paths lead to the vegetable garden with huge bay tree underplanted with herbs and edible flowers.

Elizabeth, a former home economics teacher loves textiles and sewing, interior design, cooking and gardening. Tony works in the shipping industry and has a love of history, books and cricket. Both have travelled extensively.

The Location

Ingatestone has attractive specialist shops and old almshouses, a lovely old church, and an Elizabethan Hall. Nearby RHS Hyde Hall is a must for keen gardeners as are Beth Chatto's Garden and Langthorns and Hopleys nurseries. A listed mainline railway station with a regular 30 minute service to Liverpool Street gives access to London art galleries, shops, theatres and concerts until late.

From London on A12, take B1002 to Ingatestone. At centre of village, after church, turn left at crossroads, opposite Stock Lane, into Fryerning Lane. Up hill to T-junction and turn right. Yew Tree House is 300 yards on the right.
