This welcoming large Provençal mas is set in open country, surrounded by a grove of 300 olive trees with stunning views over the Etang de Berre - the largest salt water lake in Europe. Guests can enjoy the three acre garden with its 12 m x 6 m swimming pool, tennis court and top level croquet lawn, and walking on neighbouring vineyards.

The large, comfortable, tastefully decorated bedrooms all have individual air conditioning and heating and airy private bathrooms with baths and showers. Terraces shaded by cascading white wisteria and secluded rose gardens are perfect for a peaceful holiday - as are the drawing room with grand piano and open fire in winter, conservatory/television room well stocked with videos, and library with books in a variety of languages.

After a life in multinationals, Michael is the cook and also runs Provençal cookery courses; he always eats with his guests. He knows the history of the region well and loves conversation. Thevi is from Singapore; she keeps house, and also provides baby sitting and laundry services for guests. Theme holidays can be organised on cooking, Provençal style, French language and culture, wine and chamber music amongst others.

La Rabassière is in the centre of Provence; there is much of interest within easy reach: cultural centres such as Arles, Aix, Avignon and Marseille: the beauty of unspoilt countryside in the Luberon, the Camargue, the Alpilles (St Rémy, les Baux), the Calanques and the Sainte Baume: summer festivals everywhere. Guests receive a well presented information book so that they can plan their stay effectively and get the most out of every day.
