Surrounded by views of undulating countryside and on the edge of a small Oxfordshire village, sits Holmby House. An impressive drive leads to a wisteria clad, elegant Victorian house. On arrival, guests are welcomed with tea and homemade cakes in front of a log fire in the winter or on the terrace in the summer. Inside, the recently restored house is luxuriously decorated with classic fabrics and antique furniture. Bedrooms are spacious and light with fantastic views. Guests are greeted in their rooms by an array of facilities including large comfortable beds, good sized baths or power showers, television, telephone, fresh flowers, a bowl of fruit and bottled mineral water.

The garden is a colourful, fragrant oasis and includes a secluded summer house. For the more active guest, there is an outdoor heated pool, tennis court and croquet lawn.

Sociable and enthusiastic hosts, Sally and John enjoy sharing their home and entertaining. Sally, an ex-Barts ward sister and past England lacrosse player, enjoys all aspects of country living. An aficionado of Claire Macdonald, guests are assured of good cooking from local produce and home grown vegetables. John is a hormone specialist and has a particular interest in wine. Your hosts are keen on opera, theatre and travel - especially to Scotland.

The Location

On the edge of the Cotswolds, there is something for everyone near Holmby House. Stratford-upon-Avon, Stow on the Wold, Chipping Campden, Oxford and Warwick are all within a short distance of the property. There are excellent walking and cycling opportunities not far from the doorstep with golf and horse riding available locally. The village has a number of good pubs and a new, highly rated restaurant.

How to find Holmby House Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Leave M40 at junction 11 turning left towards Banbury. At 3rd roundabout (Tesco ahead on the right) turn left onto Southam Rd. At next roundabout (Banbury Cross) turn right onto B4035 towards Shipston-on-Stour. After passing through villages of Broughton, Tadmarton and Swalcliffe at the top of a hill turn left to Sibford Ferris. Go straight over a small crossroads and down into the village. Holmby House is the first house on right.
