Glen Lodge
Lodge No 94
Bordering the Exmoor National Park, close to the sea, stands what is quite simply, a special Wolsey Lodge. Nestled amidst the trees, Glen Lodge is a tranquil haven in a picture perfect setting. Built in 1886, the original features have been blended into the warm and welcoming home of Meryl and David Salter.
Set in 21 acres, gardens extend all around tiers with a captivating stream cascading over waterfalls alongside secluded terraces, the croquet lawn and seating areas to while away your time. Exmoor and the coastal paths lead directly from the gardens and the village of Porlock, with its array of shops and tea rooms, is just a short stroll away.
This is a home to relax in and the cosy library, sitting and dining rooms all enjoy the amazing views across the garden to the sea beyond. Tea and cakes are served every afternoon of your stay and are well worth returning home for! Each bedroom has been carefully furnished with all of the finishing touches you would expect of a Wolsey Lodge and your breakfast here will be nothing less than exceptional – the freshly baked muffins are a particular speciality and not to be missed.
Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts
David is a master craftsman and spends much of each week working away restoring wooden windows. When at home the garden is his domain and he is a keen sailor and birdwatcher. Meryl is an outstanding cook and keen photographer as well as sharing ‘twitching’ with David.
The Location
Exmoor is a delight throughout the year – don’t miss a walk to Dunkery beacon, charming Porlock Weir, Valley of the Rocks, cliff railway at Lynton, Dunster Castle, Tarr Steps and of course the Exmoor ponies and deer. Take a stroll across the open moors before enjoying a meal and drink at one of the wonderful pubs in the area.
