This unusual red sandstone mansion with bastion-like façade, sits majestically on a hill overlooking a Grade 1 listed landscape. At first glance, everything is on a grand scale, but relaxing in the peaceful drawing room, drinking tea and eating delicious home made cakes, you soon realise it is a much-loved home of style, warmth and comfort.

Embossed plasterwork on the lofty ceilings and polished wooden floors, antique rugs and furniture are accentuated by mellow lighting. A baby grand piano and full sized snooker table await and the drawing room leads out into gardens brimming with rhododendrons, banks of azaleas and a peaceful acer glade.

An impressive stone staircase leads to three luxurious bedrooms - one with a secret door into the bathroom; one with its own sitting room and bathroom; another with a canopied bed; all with baths or showers that sparkle with gold accessories.

Shropshire born and bred, Sylvia and her husband Beverley have been welcoming guests for almost 20 years and take great pleasure in sharing their home, their hospitality and their travel stories! Meals are prepared using local meats and cheeses and home-produced fruit and vegetables from the lovingly tended potager. Everything contributes to the philosophy inherited from Sylvia's stewardess days, “taking good care of you”.

The Location

Shrewsbury, Chester, the Potteries, and the Ironbridge museums are close by as are Powys and Chirk castles, but the real magic lies just a short walk from the house in the awe-inspiring park of Hawkstone with its hidden pathways, concealed grottoes, intriguing secret tunnels and a remarkable collection of follies.

Situated between Hodnet & Weston. Leave the A49, 12 miles north of Shrewsbury, 8 miles south of Whitchurch, follow signs to Weston/Hawkstone Park. House is on the right ¼ mile after taking the Hodnet road out of the village
