Johnby Hall

Lodge No 22

Johnby Hall is a great location from which to explore all that the Lake District has to offer. Steeped in history, the Elizabethan manor house started life around 1350 as a fortified pele tower and has belonged to the Howard family since 1783. It is now home to Henry and Anna Howard who welcome guests looking for a comfortable base from which to enjoy the surrounding area.

Located in a pretty cottage in the garden, the Studio is an open-plan suite offering superbly comfortable double or twin accommodation; an extra occasional bed in the sitting-room area makes this a great option for families with up to two children. (A cot is also available for babies.) Kelly is in a seventeenth-century wing of the house and offers twin or double arrangements, with its own delightful sitting room. Breakfast is taken in the stunning ‘great hall’ where the history of the house is evident all around you, from family coats of arms to antique oak furniture and carefully-preserved architectural features.

Guests are welcome to explore several acres of informal gardens and adjacent woodlands, which are full of wildlife including red squirrels and deer.

Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts

Henry and Anna are both part-time professional musicians – Henry is a tenor and Anna is a harpist and soprano. (Musical guests feel especially at home here, and can enjoy playing the pianos in the Studio and great hall.) Henry, Anna and their young family are dedicated to ensuring a warm and friendly welcome for their guests.

The Location

The Lake District National Park’s fells, dales and lakes are on your doorstep along with the many tourist attractions from farm shops to lake steamers, ostrich farms to motor museums. Local historic houses and castles are all around and many events and festivals take place locally throughout the year.
