The Hill on the Wall
Lodge No 24
Pretty as a picture in a picture-perfect setting overlooking Hadrian’s Wall, the Hill on the Wall, a 16th century fortified farmhouse, is nothing less than the most perfect B&B you could wish to find. Walkers and explorers traversing this beautiful part of the world will find the warmest welcome on arrival and a delicious selection of home-made cakes which, if the weather is kind, can be taken outside whilst you admire the breathtaking views.
The guests’ lounge offers a retreat to relax in and on cold days the warmth of the wood burner will entice you to stay awhile and catch up on your reading or pass the time with a board game perhaps. Outside there are seating areas aplenty from which to enjoy the garden and those oh so wonderful views.
Relaxed, delicious breakfasts are the hallmark of a stay here with everything you need to set you up for a day exploring the Cumbrian countryside. The bedrooms are spacious, supremely comfortable, furnished with fine linens and an array of tea, coffee and biscuits - what perfection this is.
Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts
Elaine and Dick Packer are the most attentive hosts who know how to make their guests feel welcome and at home. A 1947 MG TC receives much attention from Dick whilst for Elaine, cooking is a pastime to be enjoyed. Together they enjoy travelling and have a great knowledge of the area to share with guests.
The Location
So much to see and do – Vindolanda and Housesteads are not to be missed but neither should the many other Roman sites hereabouts – Birdoswald Roman Fort, The Roman Army Museum and Chester’s Roman site, or why not delve into more recent history with a visit to Beamish Open Air Museum. Carlisle, Newcastle, the Lakes and Scottish border are all within reach.
