This fascinating Grade II listed building, the oldest part of which is Tudor, has a wonderful eccentric and intriguing character with varying floor levels, small flights of steps and original dark oak panelling downstairs. Originally a Vicarage, the family has lived here since 1828 and the house is filled with beautiful furniture and artefacts that all add to its attraction.

The impressive inner hall with oriental rugs and wood burning stove is used as the winter sitting room whilst in the summer guests can enjoy the delights of the drawing room which opens onto the rose garden. The bedrooms are spacious, beautifully decorated and furnished with antiques, comfortable seating, tea trays and televisions and all have either en-suite or private bathrooms. (The Garden Sitting Room and the Oak Bedroom can be taken together to create a private suite).

The four acre gardens are charming with lawns, yew walks, flower borders, a croquet lawn and the Morland Beck flowing through which can be crossed either by bridge or stepping stones to the Quarry Garden or the Orchard.

Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts

David used to work in Finance and Marketing for British Coal and retired early on privatisation to run his own business. Suzie started and ran Travelling Light before working as the Administrator for the Eden Mind Charity. Both have now retired permanently to concentrate on looking after their guests. They are both keen motorcyclists and enjoy skiing, golfing, riding and David bowls at county level.

The Location

Morland is on the edge of the Lake District National Park and perfectly located for exploring the Eastern and Northern Lakes. The beautiful, under-explored Eden Valley is one of England’s best kept secrets with pretty walks and cycle routes. The Pennines, Yorkshire Dales and Hadrian’s Wall are within easy reach as is Appleby-in-Westmorland, famous for its castle and annual horse fair.

How to find Morland House Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

Travelling North on M6: Turn off J39, approx 1½ miles north of Shap Right turn to Newby/Morland. In Morland bear Right down hill to ‘The Square’. Crown Inn on Right with Morland House gate on Left as you enter the ‘Square’.

Travelling South on M6: Turn off J40 (Penrith) and take A66 East (Scotch Corner) for 1 mile to Roundabout. Turn South on A6 (towards Kendal/Shap) for 1 mile and Left turn to Morland/Cliburn. In Cliburn Right turn to Morland 1½ miles. In Morland bear left down hill into ‘The Square’ at the bottom. Crown Inn on Right with Morland House gate on Left as you enter ‘The Square’.
