Knowles Lodge

Lodge No 107

Set on a small plateau surrounded by 18 acres of woodland and meadow, Knowles Lodge has spectacular views in every direction and offers guests a wonderful base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. The Canadian-style ranch house, built by Chris's father, has been carefully restored by Chris and Pam.

In good weather you'll be welcomed with tea on the classic verandah; when it's cold you'll sit in front of the open fire in the sitting room. A wonderful collection of contemporary paintings is displayed around the house against a backdrop of beautifully decorated rooms including three ground floor bedrooms, each with en suite bathroom, a comfortable sitting room and TV room. Fine linen, soft towels in the bathrooms and tea trays in the bedrooms providing a selection of tea, coffee, hot chocolate, biscuits and fresh milk all help to ensure you feel at home here. Breakfasts use the freshest ingredients and are guaranteed to set you up for a day's walking or sight seeing. The gardens are a delight with bluebells in the spring and a boule pit on the lawn to enjoy in the summer.

Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts

Chris and Pam are delighted to share their beautifully restored home with guests. Pam, a keen gardener, spends as much time as possible in her garden whilst Chris, a born and bred Dalesman, is still in the clothing business. They both enjoy helping their guests make the most of this beautiful area, and have a wealth of knowledge of where to dine.

The Location

This part of the Yorkshire Dales is a walkers' paradise - the Dales Way runs through the meadow - but cyclists, fishermen - there's 400 yards of fly fishing on the River Wharfe available - and those who just want to relax and enjoy the scenery will be equally impressed. Harrogate and Ripon are within easy reach as is Fountains Abbey, Aysgarth Falls and Malham Tarn & Cove. Knowles Lodge is less than half a mile away from the old Dales village of Appletreewick which boasts two typical country pubs as well as being home to the Earl of Craven on whom the legend of Dick Whittington is based.
