West Coates is a striking Victorian house set in 2½ acres of beautifully tended gardens, just an eight minute walk from Berwick town centre. A very interesting glass fronted conservatory meets you, where a spacious hall leads you to a comfortable guest sitting and dining room where tea and freshly baked cakes will be served on arrival. The bedrooms are all immaculately decorated and furnished; the room called Scarba has a quite remarkable bathroom dressing room including a roll top slipper bath.

In the large mature grounds you will find a croquet lawn for games and the heated swimming pool is in its own pool house together with an American style hot-tub, both ideal for relaxing after a days sightseeing.

Karen and family are all very friendly and do go out of their way to ensure guests enjoy West Coates. Karen with a background in catering has become a well renowned local chef guaranteeing the finest of cooking with high quality local produce. She does specialize in shellfish and seafood, which is prepared to a very high standard. The family are all keen outdoor enthusiasts who spend a lot of their free time on the sea/river or on their bikes.

The Location

West Coates is perfectly placed being within 1 hour from both Edinburgh and Newcastle on the main East coast rail line. There are wonderful beaches to explore all along the beautiful Northumbria coastline. Many castles and stately homes are within easy reach including the very popular Alnwick Castle and gardens, Bamburgh Castle, the sea-bird sanctuary at the Farne Islands and the unspoilt retreat of Holy Island. Numerous golf courses nearby and excellent walking will ensure visitors have plenty to do while taking a holiday in this wonderful understated part of the country.

West Coates is just off the A1 Berwick bypass on the A6105 into Berwick. It is on the left hand side and has West Coates on the stone pillars at the end of the drive.
