Set in around six acres of beautifully tended gardens and woods, Oatfield House is steeped in history. Built in 1780 it is a typically elegant Georgian house on the outside that hides a wonderful Victorian interior, the result of substantial renovations and extensions in 1890.

The sheltered location is hidden away among trees, well away from the main road yet only three miles from Campbeltown and on the edge of the wilds leading to the Mull of Kintyre. It offers peace, tranquillity and a fabulous situation with views over to Islay and Jura.

The individually decorated bedrooms are spacious and comfortable with fine linen and soft towels in the en suite bathrooms. There is a guest sitting room with a welcoming open fire for relaxing after a day's sightseeing and a hearty Scottish breakfast served in the dining room with its beautiful Victorian dining table and lovely views. This is a wonderfully warm, friendly and happy house and one that guests will want to return to time and time again.

John and Lesley are a friendly and informal couple who go out of their way to ensure their guests feel welcome and well cared for. Their love for, and knowledge of, the area means they can offer lots of suggestions for places to visit and for the best walks to make the most of this beautiful part of Scotland. There is also a fascinating history to the house which John and Lesley have researched. John also runs a long established family crystal engraving business from buildings on the estate.

The Location

With its mild climate courtesy of the gulf stream this is an area of beautiful beaches such as Saddell beach, Southend and Westport, fine golf courses including the famous Machrihanish course and dramatic coastal cliffs of the Galdrings and the Mull of Kintyre.

Take B842 south west out of Campbeltown and follow as it turns left at Stewarton, signed to Mull of Kintyre & Southend. After 1½ miles look for two trees flanking the stone gate pillars of Oatfield House on the right.
