Ruadh Sgeir

Lodge No 118A

Ruadh Sgeir is situated high above the village of Crinan and has wonderful views to the north end of Jura, Scarba and the famous Corryvreckan whirlpool. This fine modern house has been designed to take full advantage of the stunning location. All accommodation is on the first floor and there are large picture windows. There is a split level sitting room beautifully decorated with antiques and lovely soft furnishings, and a log fire. Breakfast is served in the attractive dining room, and also dinner which might include fresh seafood straight off local fishing boats.

Glass doors lead out from the lower sitting room on to the deck where, on fine summer evening, guests can enjoy watching boats coming and going and also spectacular sunsets. The deck gives direct access to the garden, and a path and steps through woodland lead to the picturesque old harbour.

The twin room has en suite bath/shower and sliding patio windows onto the deck. The double has en suite shower. Both bedrooms face west to the islands and have a delightful outlook.

The Location

In one word – superb! This whole area is stunningly beautiful and only a couple of hours drive from Glasgow Airport and 1 hours drive from Oban and ferries to Mull & Iona and the Hebrides. The drive to Ruadh Sgeir takes you alongside the picturesque 200 year old Crinan canal which is busy with yachts taking a shortcut from the Clyde area to the Western Isles. There are forest walks, harbour villages, the glen and standing stones at Kilmartin village, Dunadd Hill where ancient kings of this part of Scotland were crowned, Castles and Gardens – this is definitely not a ‘short stay’ area!
