Ethie Castle
Lodge No 113A
Medieval splendour collides head on with 21st century luxury and the result is stunning! Ethie Castle (reputed to be Scotland’s second oldest permanently inhabited castle) exudes character, comfort and style. Dating from the 14th century the castle boasts spiral stone staircases, vaulted ceilings, a magnificent 15th century hall and a wonderful Tudor dining room featuring a huge walk-in fireplace.
On arrival you are welcomed by Kirstin whose warm, down to earth personality immediately makes guests feel at home and whose love of this beautiful building is reflected in the décor and furnishings which seem to shout 'comfort, comfort, comfort’. Fine food, comfortable bedrooms and sumptuous bathrooms in a house steeped in history – what more could anyone ask for? Nothing – except perhaps…. a ghost (reputedly that of Cardinal David Beaton 1494 – 1548 who was murdered by Protestant reformers) seen on a narrow staircase, a dragging sound and unexplained footsteps! Fascinating!!
The garden and grounds have been lovingly restored by Kirstin and Adrian – there is a wonderful parterre garden, a summerhouse and a kitchen garden which supplies most of the fruit and vegetables for guests to enjoy.
Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts
Kirstin and Adrian have lavished time and attention to detail to turn their Castle into the glorious home it now is and they delight in welcoming guests to share it. They are a lively, outgoing couple who enjoy a wide range of interests and are happy to pass on information about the area and events taking place.
