Victoria Lodge is an imposing house in a glorious woodland setting overlooking the Talla Reservoir. Built as the flagship meeting place for the trustees of the Edinburgh Water Company, it has been sensitively modernised to provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Guests arriving are offered tea and home-made cakes in the magnificent panelled drawing room where, in winter, a log fire crackles in the hearth.

Furnished in the Arts and Crafts style to reflect the period of the house, it retains fascinating features such as the listed Gentleman's Cloakroom with wonderful marble sinks and tiled walls, old-fashioned lavatories and the Butlers Pantry with its original pitch pine cupboards and shelves.

The bedrooms are all large and bright with en suite bathrooms, and all have magnificent views. Victoria Lodge is set in six acres of grounds, including a walled kitchen garden, lawns and a woodland walk where wildlife abounds from deer and hares to the magnificent sight of osprey on the reservoir.

Before retirement, David was a partner in a law firm and is a keen cook, specialising in game dishes. He also fishes and shoots, and is busy restoring the kitchen garden. Rosemary is a retired company director and trained home economist, both she and David delight in ensuring their guests enjoy delicious food in a most beautiful setting.

The Location

This is an area of exceptional beauty, full of things to do and places to see. Trout fishing on Talla and Megget reservoirs, and fishing on the river Tweed, Stobo Castle Health Spa, Dawyck Botanical Gardens, the historic border towns of Moffat and Peebles are close by, and Edinburgh is only 38 miles away.

How to find Victoria Lodge Bed & Breakfast (B&B).

From the south take the A701 from Moffat, turn right after 16 miles, signed Talla. Cross the Tweed, straight on at crossroads and through the forest until reaching the Talla Dam. The house is on the left on the far side of the dam. From the north, turn left 6 miles after leaving Broughton on the A701, signed Talla and proceed as above.
