Loved by generations of the Playfair family, you will be warmly welcomed to Abbey Mains by Joyce and David Playfair, who have lived in this inviting family home since 1972 and who have a well deserved reputation for old-fashioned hospitality and friendliness.

A grand staircase sweeps up from the impressively sumptuous hall to the elegantly appointed double or twin rooms, each with exclusive facilities. In addition, the large drawing room and television room offer guests a comfortable and friendly place to relax.

David and Joyce clearly enjoy looking after guests. David, an established arable farmer, looks forward to one day returning to his hobby of carriage driving. Joyce's attention to detail is evident in the wealth of home comforts. Flowers and foliage from the enchanting walled garden provide her with everything needed to indulge her passion for flower arranging and the kitchen garden produces fresh fruit and vegetables required for the house.

The Location

Edinburgh is just 25 minutes away and with a Park and Ride to the city centre very close by, it is the quickest and easiest route. The peaceful area boasts great golf courses, including Muirfield; the Museum of Flight, now home to Concorde; the Sea Bird Centre and Bird Sanctuary; the lowland distillery of Glenkinchie; and also Newhailes House - recently acquired by the National Trust. Beaches are only 10 minutes away and it is a short trip out to the Bass Rock.
