Old Kippenross
Lodge No 155
Old Kippenross is a magical architectural gem, quite unique in Scotland, tucked away in a sheltered sunny position in a wooded valley beside the River Allan.
The ‘ancient tower' was built in 1448 and was confirmed as a Barony in 1507. In 1633 it was extended to a fortified L-shaped tower house. It has been painted pink ever since the battle of Sheriffmuir in 1715, a sign that it was a safe house for Jacobite supporters. It is said that there was an escape route through a tunnel down to the river.
The ground floor is fascinating with a vaulted ceiling, an arched fireplace and a log fire. A spiral stair leads up to the ‘Blue Room', a twin bedded room with an en suite bathroom and a small single room for a child or relation. Up again is the ‘Tower Bedroom' with a king size double bed and en suite bathroom. The bedrooms are prettily decorated and face south with views to the river where roe deer can often be seen browsing.
Your Bed & Breakfast Hosts
Sue and Patrick love their home and are delighted for visitors to share it with them. Guests are welcome to roam in the grounds and by the river where they can sih by prior arragnement. Sue often cooks salmon from the Allan or local game, using organic herbs from the garden. This is cooked and served in the lovely vaulted dining room. Patrick is a keen ornithologist.
The Location
Stirling Castle, the Wallace Monument, Doune Castle and Dunblane Cathedral are very close, and Old Kippenross is ideally placed for visiting the Trossachs, Castle Campbell, Falkland Palace and Gleneagles.
Edinburgh and Glasgow can both be reached in under an hour by car, and Old Kippenross is 3 minutes drive from a railway station which has excellent services to both cities.
