Bridge Hill House

Strikingly modern, luxurious and comfortable, with marvelous views to match…

This Lodge sits on a hillside overlooking the World Heritage Site of Derwent Valley Mills, the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution. The estate on which it sits used to belong to the Strutt family, Belper’s key benefactors, meaning that the grounds benefit from established trees, retained from the original property.

A newly built family bed and breakfast, it has retained many interesting historical features, including an ancient ice house which is well worth exploring. The layout is ‘upside down’ with all four spacious bedrooms on the ground floor, each with their own en-suite, comfortable beds, silent fridges and named after famous local figures.

Breakfast is served in the first-floor kitchen/breakfast room, or weather permitting, on the adjoining terrace which offers B&B guests further panoramic vistas. The AA breakfast award says much about the quality of the breakfast at this lodge, and Caroline’s Eggs Benedict are particularly lauded!

There is a stylishly furnished sitting room for relaxing in comfort after a day of exploration in and around the Peak District. For evening meals, excellent restaurants and pubs are within walking distance.

Your B&B Hosts

Steve and Caroline enjoyed varied careers, including teaching, landscape architecture and various property interests, before becoming Wolsey Lodge hosts. Both are enthusiastically involved in the local community and keen local historians. Consequently, they have a wealth of local knowledge that they are more than happy to share with their guests. These are delightfully welcoming hosts, which their visitors’ book proves!

Location

The historic market and mill town of Belper, a stone’s throw from the Peak District, is on the River Derwent and steeped in industrial history. The area offers interesting independent shops, parks and gardens, lovely countryside and numerous festivals to appeal to all interests. Wolsey Lodge aficionados who are outdoor enthusiasts can try boating, cycling, walking, riding, golf and fishing. Plus of course historic houses, heritage museums and a host of other great attractions.
