Longbourn 1895

A truly authentic country house, ideal for a rural break…

‘Classically elegant, individually furnished and full of character’ is the best way to describe this fabulous family run bed and breakfast. The rhododendron-flanked drive will guide you as make your way to the huge entrance hall, brimming with antiques and a warm Wolsey Lodge welcome! The house itself was built in 1895 and has been lovingly restored to reflect the Victorian period in which it was built.

Your hosts pride themselves on their home-grown and locally sourced breakfast of freshly laid free range eggs, home-made sausages and bacon from their Rare Breed Middle White pigs. Besides the rare breeds, the 11-acre small holding is home to a flock of Soay sheep, peacocks and ‘Nelly’ the Tamworth – who loves a biscuit!

Visitors are welcome to use the elegant drawing room, with an open fireplace and comfortable sofas, as well as the dining room where breakfast and evening meals are served. The galleried landing leads to three fully equipped and luxurious bedrooms with either an en-suite or private bathroom, there is also a balcony for relaxing and taking in the views.

It was Rudyard Kipling who said, ‘Our England is a Garden’ and it is easy to see why after spending a few days exploring this charming part of East Sussex.

Your B&B Hosts

Jane’s background in theatrical costume design and eye for detail clearly influenced the fabulous décor and soft furnishings. She is also a cook of note and their short holding has featured on television. Roland is also a keen cook and they are a great team. He works in the City and his penchant for military history is evident in their collection of antique military engravings. They are splendid Wolsey Lodge B&B hosts and enthusiastically endeavour to provide a special and memorable stay.
