Rectory Manor Hotel

One of the finest bed and breakfasts in the region…

This really is a grand Wolsey Lodge, offering a superb typical English country house B&B experience in one of the finest rectories in Suffolk. The impressive Grade II listed house is principally Georgian but parts date back to the 14th century and boasts much historical interest with the Reverend Hopkins having written The Book of Psalms here in 1563.

Set in acres of lovely grounds, including a croquet lawn, swimming pool, tennis court and a Lebanese cedar planted from seed in 1869, guests can enjoy the peaceful outdoors in summer or curl up in front of a log fire indoors on colder days. The décor is elegant and classically Georgian, with all rooms furnished in typical English style and many family portraits and memorabilia adorning the common areas.

There is an honesty bar in the drawing room alongside books and local literature. Bedrooms (all en suite) are in the main house and the stables, the latter being more modern in style. All rooms are large (some furnished with antiques and one with four poster) with wonderful views of the garden. Every consideration to make your stay as comfortable as possible is considered, including fridges for fresh milk

Your B&B Hosts

Owner Frank, having enjoyed a successful career in finance and then technology, is now a local councillor and enjoys conservation projects, travelling and field sports. His family has lived here for many years and he shares the day-to-day running of this fabulous B&B with Tom, their delightful family butler, who welcomes guests, cooks and serves delicious Suffolk breakfasts, enjoyed around the ancient oak refectory table. Ever mindful of his family motto ‘Be Ready’, Frank is a very charming and welcoming host.

Nearby Lavenham - England’s best-preserved medieval town - is just one of the gems in this lovely part of Suffolk. It offers scenery that inspired many artists, wonderful local produce, unspoilt coastline and numerous other historical towns including Sudbury, villages and houses to explore. There are many places to enjoy an evening meal within a ten minute drive. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy some of the finest shooting in the country, cycling, golf, walking, racing at Newmarket and many other attractions for all ages in the vicinity.
