The Barn

Georgian rural gem…

Tucked away in eight acres of grassland on the edge of the lovely conservation village of Folkingham, sits The Barn, originally built in the 17th Century for thrashing grain. After many years of neglect, it has been transformed into one of the most welcoming of bed and breakfasts.

Restored with minimum interference to the original architecture, this lovely home boasts exposed beams, real log fires, comfortable seating areas.  A large dining table now resides where grain was once thrashed, French windows from the kitchen, formerly stables, lead to the courtyard garden full of colour. The bedrooms are simply styled with pretty bed linens, excellent power showers, and lovely views.

Upon arrival your most welcoming host, Jane will encourage you to make yourself at home and begin your visit with tea around the old farmhouse kitchen table. Breakfasts include eggs from the rare breed hens, homemade Lincolnshire sausages, apple juice made using the apples from the orchard and honey from the bees. Suppers and dinners are also available by prior arrangement.

Jane & Simon were excellent hosts. The bed was very comfortable and the room was large and tastefully furnished. Dinner and breakfast were sumptuous.

Your B&B Hosts

Jane has loved welcoming guests since 2002. With good local knowledge, she can advise B&B guests where they might like to visit during their stay and keeps a collection of local guides and history books. Jane loves travelling herself and appreciates what makes for a relaxing and enjoyable visit. Many guests return year after year.

Location

Folkingham has changed very little, the village stores, and the Greyhound, a former coaching Inn, still stand in the Market Place, near the church, dating from the 12th century. There are several good eating establishments nearby. South Lincolnshire comes as a surprise to those who think the county is only flat, the villages are surrounded by gently rolling land and linked by generally deserted lanes. All perfect for cycling or walking. Numerous country houses such as Burghley and Belton, outstanding churches and cathedrals, and busy market towns, are all within easy reach and Stamford is always a favourite.
