Leicestershire has been in and out of the news these past 5 years, first, the discovery of Richard III (minus his feet) under a car park, followed by Leicester City FC being crowned Premier League Champions.

However, there is far more to Leicestershire than football and burial sites, it is also the home of Stilton, Red Leicester, the pork pie and a whole host of must-see attractions. Linda Gee, of Horseshoe Cottage Farm, has sourced her best recommendations for those visiting the area.

First, the award-winning Richard III Visitors Centre the site is a former Victorian school which has been carefully converted into a state-of-the-art centre bringing to life this fascinating tale from English history whilst celebrating one of the greatest ever archaeological detective stories of modern times.

A stone’s throw from which is the Guildhall, which is now a museum and performance venue, for over 600 years this building has been located in the heart of Leicester.

Continuing down our historical theme be sure to make time to visit Bradgate Park, it covers some 850 acres complete with Deer Park and the ruins Lady Jane Grey’s former home which can explore

Less than north of the town centre you can find Belvoir Castle, simple stunning estate and family home, complete with Tea Room and well-tended gardens. For fans of the National Trust, head to Stoneywell – the home of a family who loved arts and crafts – and Calke Abbey, the un-stately home, and country estate.

For a fantastic day out with the family, Foxton Locks is the place to visit, or for a wonderful day of walks make your way to Charnwood Peaks, National Forest.

This October, be sure to visit The Loogabarooga Festival, which is all about books and incredible illustrations perfect for both children and adults alike, starts on the 18^th till the 24^th.
