Burnville House

The rooms, the facilities, the food… Simply Perfect!

A large hall and sweeping staircase lead to the generously proportioned and classically decorated bed and breakfast guest bedrooms, with en-suite bath/shower rooms. There are hidden fridges and antique furniture cleverly mixed with the contemporary. Entertainment systems, luxurious bathrooms, toiletries, linens, fresh flowers and hospitality trays offer understated luxury and style.

You will arrive at this elegant Georgian farmhouse through listed granite gateposts and along the winding drive. Situated on a working farm, between the villages of Lydford and Brentor, near Tavistock, part of the Dartmoor National Park, this Wolsey Lodge has views over Dartmoor, accompanied by lawns and wildflower-carpeted woods.

A splendid vista in which to relax and unwind, either in the garden or in the cooler months a roaring log fire in the drawing room. A tennis court and heated swimming pool plus a games room complete with skittles are also available for guests to take advantage of.

Remarkably good breakfasts are served in the dining room, where B&B guests can also enjoy fabulous dinners, by prior arrangement. Produce from the farm and locally sourced ingredients are used where possible.

Three farm cottages - Dartmoor at its best

Three well-appointed farm cottages are perfect for family holidays in Devon. They share the facilities of Burnville Farm, with its games room including skittles and pool, tennis court and heated outdoor pool, but add little extras: private indoor swimming pools and gardens of their own. Catering for between six and eleven guests, choose the property that best suits your party.

The two cottages with indoor pools are the Red Barn, sleeping six, and the Coach House with space for eleven. The most recent conversion is the Red Barn, with its own garden and terrace, central heating, and woodburning stove. It has its own gym and an 'endless' plunge pool with variable river flow. The spacious ground floor is beautifully furnished and equipped, while upstairs all three bedrooms are en-suite. The Coach House was formerly the owner's home, and has its own heated games room, patio and an acre of garden. Inside period features abound, with plenty of space for children and adults alike to play party games together - but also find peaceful, private refuges when required. Changeover day is Saturday for the Farmhouse, while it's Friday for the Red Barn and the Coach House.

The farmhouse is perhaps the ultimate story-book rural home, amid barns and animals. It has its own secluded garden leading down to a stream but this is 20 yards across the farmyard, making you really feel a part of a working farm. Inside there are slate- and quarry-tiled floors, exposed beams and open fireplaces, truly living up to its history but with all the comforts you could possibly desire. Your B&B Hosts

Tim and Victoria upped sticks from careers in London to farm and raise their family in Devon. The 250-acre organic farm has sheep (guests are welcome to help feed lambs) and suckler cows. Victoria, a very accomplished cook, and Tim enjoys an outdoor life, riding, cycling, tennis, shooting and sailing when they have spare time. Their exceptional hospitality skills result in a high proportion of return visitors, so early booking is advisable.

Location

Outdoor enthusiasts are spoilt for choice here. Head east to explore Dartmoor by foot or mountain bike; drive south for the delights of Tavistock and the beauty of the Tamar Valley.
