Eastwrey Barton Country House

Just a bit special, full of character and warmth

More classy than a standard B&B, more homely than a hotel, Eastwrey Barton is a wonderful Georgian country house that is everything a true home from home should be. Quite apart from the four spacious guest bedrooms there are several reception rooms designed to make your stay comfortable. The first room you're likely to encounter is the sitting room where guests are greeted with homemade cakes, where there's a log-burning stove and a projector and screen for watching a film or a sporting event. This room leads to the sun lounge with an electric piano and a selection of reading books. Breakfast is served in a lovely sunny room looking over the patio and garden to the view beyond. The dining room has a selection of maps and guidebooks, as well as a round rosewood table, perfect for cards or board games while enjoying a drink from the licensed bar.

There are four guest bedrooms here, all en-suite with baths and power showers. The rooms are beautifully furnished and equipped. Mattresses are luxurious, sheets Egyption cotton, toiletries bespoke and bathrobes provided. They're also very large: all have space to include separate seating areas and two have space for two extra beds, making them ideal for families of four. Hospitality trays have a selection of teas, coffees and biscuits, all of which are restocked daily, and naturally there's broadband throughout.

Breakfast includes the full range of cold and cooked options, and special diets are catered for. From this elevated position you have stunning views over the patio to the woods and fields of the Wray Valley. The garden is an attraction in its own right: spreading over 1.5 acres, it includes some magnificent trees, flowering shrubs and flowers: there are plenty of places to find privacy and peace.

Your B&B Hosts

Your hosts here are Janet and Martin Rolph, who delight in welcoming guests to their home. Martin is a part time GP and likes nothing better than getting out the maps and giving advice about what to do and see. They took over Eastwrey Barton in 2017 so are relatively new to B&B, but their chain of five-star reviews indicates they must be doing something right: guests invariably comment how well they manage the balance of being hospitable and friendly without being intrusive.

Location

Eastwrey Barton is situated within Dartmoor National Park, and manages to be at once easy to reach from the major routes in the South West and quietly set, perfect for getting away from it all. The beautiful village of Lustleigh is almost next door, and within a few minutes you can reach the historic small towns of Bovey Tracey, Moretonhampstead, Chagford and the renowned Widecombe-in-the-Moor, with its tearooms, pubs and heated outdoor pools. A little further afield you'll find the coast paths and beaches that keep visitors flocking to south Devon and the towns of Dartmouth, Salcombe and Bigbury are within easy range.
