Manor House Farm

An enchanting country escape…

In search of peace and quiet? Then look no further!  Manor House Farm offers all that you could possibly wish for in luxury accommodation. Your hosts Libby and Robin Ellis have transformed their family home into an utterly beautiful bed and breakfast, with a garden that visitors flock to see whenever it is open under the National Gardens Scheme.

The converted stable wing offers two large and airy bedrooms both with en-suite bathrooms, a spacious sitting room with wood burning stove and a small kitchen where guests can make themselves light refreshments. The twin room in the stable wing has been designed for wheelchair access.

In the main house, there is a further double B&B bedroom with en suite bathroom. Each room has been luxuriously furnished to ensure Wolsey Lodge guests’ absolute comfort. They can also provide stabling for guest’s horses.

Opened every year as part of the NGS, the four-acre garden offers a series of different spaces which surround the house on three sides. The unusual walled ‘Taj’ garden is a highlight; complete with formal carp pond, old-fashioned roses and tree peonies. Leading away from the house is a fragrant tunnel of roses with a pleached lime walk beyond and much more.

Delicious, hearty breakfasts are served in the family's elegant Dining Room at the front of the main house. Eggs, bacon and sausages from the farm are cooked on the Aga and served alongside homemade jams and compotes made with garden fruits.

An idyllic retreat in the heart of this beautiful garden

Set in Manor Farm's magnificent four acres of landscaped gardens, this is a great place for a romantic getaway or peaceful retreat. Crafted from an ancient farm building, Garden Cottage offers totally self-contained accommodation in a beautiful setting. Soaring beams frame a light and airy decor complemented by antique furnishings, Indian rugs and an eclectic collection of art and sculpture from all over the world.

Approached through clouds of lavender, Garden Cottage is a romantic retreat that is ideal for a couple celebrating a special date or simply settling down on holiday. The open-plan sitting area has a fully equipped kitchen, complete with large hob, microwave and washing machine, while a log-burning stove gives the room a focus, as well as seeing off any winter chill.

The spacious bedroom has a four-poster king-sized bed, with an adjoining bathroom complete with bath and walk-in shower. Linens are crisp and towels are fluffy: everything is done to the highest standards. Outside the terrace is a real sun trap, a great place to sit with a glass of wine while watching the resident barn owls in flight.

Your B&B Hosts

Robin and Libby have farmed here since 1966, bringing up their four children in what is very much a comfortable family home. Robin is a conservationist and they both have a huge interest in the garden, as well as being widely travelled.
