Pool House

A lovely family-run Highland retreat, complete with a nautical theme and incredible views…

Residing on the shores of Loch Ewe is this stunning Wolsey Lodge which is steeped in history and is filled with an eclectic selection of furnishing from around the world. The location provides stunning views of not only the Loch but also where the river meets the sea. It is the perfect place to venture for a bit of rest and relaxation and has attracted many celebrities over the years.

It is lovingly run by two generations of the Harrison family, who will do all they can to make your time with them memorable. Each of the large suites are named after a WWII warship, comprise a large bedroom, en suite bathroom and sitting room. Each suite is made distinctive by one feature or another: a balcony overlooking the sea and river, a rare glass canopied Edwardian bathing machine or a seven-foot four-poster bed. There's also a dedicated massage treatment room where Pool House's own therapist offers Swedish, warm bamboo, and Thai foot massages, as well as natural facelift treatments using Botanical oils.

Superb breakfasts and a set four-course dinner (by arrangement) are served in the dining room which is situated only a few feet from the sea and enjoys spectacular views. Most ingredients come from within a 10-mile radius and include hand-dived scallops and crab from Loch Ewe and venison from the local estate.

Your B&B Hosts

With 60 years hospitality experience, the Harrison parents welcome their guests but have handed the reins for running Pool House to their daughters Elizabeth & Mhairi. This notable family can trace its roots back 1000 years and is related to the actor John Wayne and the captain of the ill-fated Titanic.

Poolewe is located in the centre of Wester Ross. To the north lies Ullapool, the ferry terminal serving Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides and to the south, Kyle of Lochalsh and the Isle of Skye. Five hours drive from Edinburgh or Glasgow and only 90 minutes from Inverness. Plenty to do here with walking, fishing, sandy beaches, breath-taking sunsets, and seal spotting. Fabulous gardens (Inverewe and Attadale), museums and nature reserves. Notable events include WWII Week at Loch Ewe in May, the Gairloch Gathering, Classic car meet andLoch Broom Skiff Regatta, as well as the Loch Carron Highland Games in July.
