Post Office House

First class delivery on the Northumberland coast

There's not much good that comes out of post office closures, but this unique B&B is an exception. The Post Office in Belford has been beautifully repurposed as an elegant and welcoming home from home just off the A1 and within easy reach of the glorious beaches and castles of North Northumberland.

Special Offer Available

`First Class' Christmas
Expires: 27/12/2019

Stay with us for our special Christmas Package, arriving 24th December and departing on 27th December. Festive extras and Christmas Day evening light canapes and wine from 6pm to 7pm. For further information or bookings, please either go to our `News and Offers' page or telephone us.

There are three guest bedrooms here, sympathetically restored to reflect the Victorian period and the former role of the building. Unlike most Wolsey Lodges there is no separate living area for guests downstairs, but all guest bedrooms are large enough to accommodate armchairs so you can relax in your room. They're well-appointed too, with Krups Nespresso coffee machines, 32" Smart TVs, bathrobes and fine linens. All are ensuite with walk-in power showers, heated towel rails and Scottish Fine Soap Company toiletries.

Rooms are quiet and relaxing, with sumptuous blackout curtains supplemented, in all three rooms, by wooden shutters. Next door but one there is a traditional, very welcoming pub with a wonderful open fire and a selection of real ales. And if you feel like a nightcap each room's hospitality tray includes a bottle of Lindisfarne mead. On chilly mornings the breakfast room is heated by a wood-burning stove and when the weather is kind guests are free to relax in the sheltered courtyard garden with wonderful countryside views. There is, of course, wifi throughout.

The room was so comfortable, brimming with loads of little touches to make it that extra special. Fabulous breakfast and wonderful hosts.

Your B&B Hosts

Your hosts here are Claire and Simon. Claire looks after the front of house using her first-class degree in Hospitality Management, and her 12 years at Bonhams shows in the elegant decor. Simon draws on his experience as a chef in a country house hotel and produces excellent breakfasts: even the beans are homemade. Local specialities include Craster Kippers and smoked salmon and freshly-ground coffee from Pilgrims Coffee on Holy Island. Ingredients are fresh and locally sourced, and special diets can always be accommodated if forewarned. They are walker and cyclist friendly: each room has a boot tray and there is secure storage for bicycles and motorcycles.

Location

Post Office House is ideally located between Alnwick and Berwick-on-Tweed, a couple of minutes from the A1. Belford is a lovely little town and there's a great pub almost next door, but the major attractions are a few minutes away by car. It's four miles to the glorious beaches and Bamburgh Castle, the Cheviots are close by and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne are just offshore, reached by causeway at low tide. Head south for Alnwick Castle, Alnwick Gardens and Barter Books; the award-winning Embleton Beach and Dunstanburgh Castle, or go 15 miles north and you're in the Scottish Borders. Even the city of Edinburgh is easily reached: a direct train from Berwick covers the 70 miles in 40 minutes. The nearest airport is Newcastle, 45 minutes' drive away, and Post Office House has parking for three cars.  Belford is also on a bus route to all major towns such as direct transport to Newcastle, Alnwick, Morpeth and Berwick-upon-Tweed.
