Stonebridge B&B

A rural haven minutes from the motorway

Tea and home-made cakes on arrival set the tone for a welcoming stay in this listed family house in the heart of Somerset. The Weston-Super-Mare junction on the M5 is just two miles away but feels a different world: here guests have their own access to two guest bedrooms and a stove-heated private sitting room in a glorious setting. The extensive grounds include a croquet lawn and clock golf, while Bridge players are welcome: arrive as a four or invite your hosts to make up numbers.

Stonebridge B&B was originally built as two attached dwellings, so guests here have their own front door. There is a comfortable sitting room heated by a wood-burner, and two en-suite guest bedrooms. Downstairs there's a guest room - with an en-suite bath and shower warmed by underfloor heating - which can be made up as a six-foot double or a generous twin. Upstairs there's a double room with an en-suite shower.

Cuisine is a feature here. Breakfasts are lavish affairs with home made breads and fruits from the garden, while two or three-course evening meals can be provided by arrangement. The focus is very much on making your stay comfortable and relaxing, whether a short stopover on the way to or from Cornwall or a longer stay exploring Well, Bath, Bristol and the Cheddar Gorge.

Your B&B Hosts

Liz Annesley has cooked professionally and loves entertaining, while Richard spent several years running a private members club and enjoys being front of house. Together they do everything to ensure that all guests feel completely relaxed and at home. Though there are restaurants and pubs within easy reach the evening meals at Stonebridge B&B are a treat to savour: just contact Liz to agree a menu. Unusually, guest services here can even extend to making up numbers for games of bridge.

Location

Stonebridge B&B is just minutes from junction 21 of the M5 and therefore an excellent place to break a journey to or from the West Country, while it's only 11 miles from Bristol Airport. It would be a shame to see it as a simple stopover, as there's plenty to see and do in the immediate area. A local favourite is Tyntesfield House, a gothic revival stately home now a flagshship National Trust property, with glorious grounds. Cheddar Gorge and Wells, with its magnificent cathedral, are close by and Bath and Bristol are within easy reach.
